The Technical Assistance (TA) Center is housed within the Department of Mental Health Law and Policy at Louis de la Parte Florida Mental Health Institute University of South Florida. The Center is part of a 2007 legislative bill (SB 542, HB 1477) that authorized the Criminal Justice, Mental Health and Substance Abuse Reinvestment Grant Program. Click here to read the legislation.

What we do...

  • We provide technical assistance to counties in preparing their grant applications;
  • We assist counties in projecting and measuring the effect of interventions on the county’s population at risk for involvement with the criminal justice system;
  • We serve as a clearinghouse for information and resources including best practices for addressing the needs of people with mental disorders who enter the criminal justice system; and
  • We report to the legislature annually on the impact of the grant program on problems associated with mental disorders and the criminal justice system.
